About Brandon

After Brandon got his degree in business marketing, a company near his place offered him work doing SEO. He knew nothing about SEO, but he took on the job and learned SEO through workshops and seminars.

Aside from SEO, he also helped out in other aspects of digital marketing. He did Google Ads, social media, and email marketing, but out of all this, he recommends SEO because it’s a way of driving a lot of traffic to your website for free.

SEO Link Building 101

The most important part of link building is relevancy or finding other sites that are related to you.

Once you find these websites that you want linking out to you, the best strategy to have them link out to you is by guest blogging. Reach out to them, build relationships, and see if you could give them a blog post.

Another way is by looking at your competitors’ backlinks. You can use different tools to get backlinks such as Ahrefs, Moz, or Semrush.

Getting The Right Backlinks

First, make a list of your competitors and you find out who your competitors are by going to Google and searching for your keywords. Search for 10 to twenty different keywords and make a list of who consistently shows up.

Then, run the list of your competitors into different tools and check their profiles. Find out if there are overlaps or patterns, or any red flags because that is what you want to avoid.

Remember that backlinks are one of the biggest things that get spammed, and Google wants to ensure that what you have are good quality backlinks. It may be a lot of work to have good backlinks, but they’re going to help you move up your ranking.

Guest Blogging: The Best Strategy For 2022

Guest blogging is a great way for you to get on relevant websites. Get into Google, look for websites that are relevant to your business, qualify them properly, and reach out to those that you’ve identified as relevant and suitable for you.

Offer them a free blog post, and if this is informational, they’re more likely to be receptive to what you’re giving.

Insider Tips

If we’ve inspired someone to take their first step with SEO – what do they need to know to give themselves the best chance of success?

Brandon says don’t give up and just keep at it.

You won’t see immediate results with SEO and a lot of people get discouraged because of this. But over time, you’ll see yourself moving up and getting more traffic. Just be patient.

Once you’ve started of course you’ve got to ‘keep optimising’! So what’s your favourite way to improve SEO performance?

Do a site audit and look at your competitors regularly.

Find out where you might be lacking or where you can do better. Make sure you enhance your site and that you keep everything up-to-date.

If someone listening wants to learn more about SEO is there one cheap/free resource you’d recommend?

Brandon recommends the Ahrefs blog especially if you want to know more about link-building.

Aside from this, he says to read as many blogs and watch as many YouTube videos as you can. Just check if your references are up-to-date, and that you’re getting what Google is looking for in 2022 or what it is you’re focused on.

Crystal ball time – what’s coming up in the next 6-12 months that we should be getting ready for in SEO?

Video is going to take over a little bit more.

Try to build a presence on social media through video, and build that trust with your audience. Use visual content and video clips more because they capture people’s attention better than written content today.
